Just Walk On By...

When I first started reading this selection, I was thinking this sort of stuff still happened to people. No one likes to believe or listen to the stereotypes, but you can’t help but listen. Everyone knows that you should never judge someone by their appearance, but if their presence doesn’t look or feel right, your going to think that there might be something up with them; and it doesn’t even matter what your skin color is. Also, when you’re in a major city, you’re just going to be cautious and aware of your surroundings, because anything could happen.

I admit, I am one who listens to the stereotypes, but I don’t always believe them. I think it’s normal for people to be cautious when in the city, but not for the reason of fearing that a black guy is going to mug you or if you’re a woman, having the fear of being raped. I don’t let stereotypes like these keep me from getting to know someone, or being afraid. I have an open mind when it comes to meeting people of different races, and other people need to as well.
